SELF AFFAIRS · A NOTE FROM SEYARRA

How long has
it been “later”?

For the thing you keep saving, screenshotting, and moving to next month.

You open your calendar to find a date for yourself. Then you remember the dentist appointment. The school thing. That weekend you said you’d help someone. So you close it.

“I’ll look again later.”

Babe. How long has it been later?

You know how to make room. You do it every time someone needs a ride, a favor, or a last-minute change of plans. Your afternoon becomes their afternoon before you’ve even finished your coffee.

Meanwhile, the thing you wanted is still sitting in an open tab. Alongside the dress you liked and the place you wanted to visit.

Your plans deserve a spot, too.

I’m talking about an actual spot. A date. The kind you write down and tell people, “I’ve got something that day.” Without immediately offering to move it.

That can feel strange when you’re used to being the flexible one. The available one. The one who’ll figure it out.

You’re allowed to have something to look forward to that’s yours.

A morning where you pick the music. An afternoon where someone else handles the details. Photographs you’re actually in. Something you chose because you wanted it, before turning it into a practical decision for everyone else.

Give the thing a date.

Whatever has been waiting in that tab, take it one step closer. Check the date. Ask the question. Make the plan.

Let yourself look forward to it.

Everyone else has been getting a place on your calendar. Save some room for you, bestie.

I got you,
Seyarra
